Does Stella have extra chemicals, designed to make you feel lousy the next day or is it my aging metabolism which makes me feel like this? I love Stella, she's my friend and I don't want to have to let her go.

Scientifically, its very unlikely to have been the Stella. Statiscially speaking its much more likely there were impurities or additives in the crisps, the scratchings or the nuts u also had during the evening. If you were in the pub, second hand smoke, perfume, aftershave, sweat or the psot-traumatic stress of a female rejection is more likely to blame for your currenct condition. If u were at home, conventional TVs give off powerful radiation which can affect you the next day. Chances are Stella is a faithful (well, -ish) mistress and other factors are leading you to falsely accuse her. ;-)

We have the same theory - whenever my friends and I drink Stella, we always end feeling really ill the next day. Drinking a similar strength lager in the same situation results in half the hangover. A poll around work colleagues suggests the same conclusion. After being Stella fans for many years we have all switched our loyalties to a different lager - Dab, Kronenburg (apologies for spelling), Grolsch, German brews, Budvar etc. and feel hugely more amicable in the mornings. Apparently a well travelled friend said that Stella is actually perceived as a third rate lager in Belgium - hence the aggressive marketing over here to get sales up. He said that Belgium drinkers chose other lagers over Stella. Truth or Urban Myth I don't know - anyone have an opinion on this?

nykkieberry is right. I worked for a short while in Leiden where Stella comes from - its just another ordinary big brand. The Belgian's are highly amused to know its sold as an expensive premium beer here. They had it on the station bar, you can stand with a glass in your hand watching your train pull in, as it halts, take a final swig, put down the glass and step onto the train.

\The obvious answer is to kick Stella into touch and try a different friend, may I recommend Lamot which is smooth and lovely and treats you much more kindly the following day. If you are feeling brave, try Stella again after a while and stock up with Panadol for the morning after just in case.

What a load of mince! Stella may not be the best but if you drink too much of any of them you will get a hangover.
