Has anyone else had this problem? Six days ago we bought a bunch of bananas from a supermarket. We didn't eat them. I went to throw them away because they were a bit discoloured. Loads of little flies came off them. The tiny flies are now all over my house. I've sprayed every room with fly killer but it doesn't seem to kill the little *******.

I have had that happen to me several times - always with bananas. We call them knats - I don't know what they really are - but they disappear in a few days - I have never known how to get rid of them either.
We've been inundated with them for a week now, other half is currently watching Tv holding an exterminator racket! They are all over, specially around the veg basket, but even in the bathroom, I wasn't sure if there was a general problem with them at the moment as I've come across one at the supermarket and at work and thought because there was only one it had travelled there somehow on me! Is there a plague.
They are most likely fruit flies.
Put out a glass of red wine - they love it and will drown in it.

Thanks for your answers I'm glad to here i'm not the only one with this problem, and i'm happy to hear they will die in a couple of days. As for the red wine, I think i'll drink it instead lol.
Yes, I know that problem, too.

I can't understand why you would throw away a whole bunch of bananas because they are a little discoloured.

I hate throwing out food and would make pies or milkshakes out of them rather than throw them out.

Brown bananas are yummy to eat, too, though.

When the little fruit flies are in season, I try and keep most of my fruit in the fridge.
Yes we've got them too - I discovered by accident the best way of getting rid of them.

- Wet your hands (putting Fairy Liquid or soap on and rubbing all over your hands, without wahing off, is better).

- Walk to fruit fly gaggle (or locate random loners if neccessary)

- Hold out hands into middle of gaggle of fruit flies

- Wave hands around (jumping around while laughing manically is optional extra, but think that perhaps that might count towards your 30 mins of exercise in that day)

- Watch the little b&ggers stick to your hands (and there's nothing they can do about it)

- Wash said little b&ggers off hands.

JOB DONE! Good luck.
