baked/jacket potato - best way in microwave?
10 Answers
hi
whats the best way to do a jacket potato in the microwave?
i know you prick all over with a fork, and my mum used to wrap them in a piece of kitchen roll, but i find that makes a horrid hard bit on the bottom, so there must be better ways.
any ideas?
many thanks

I use one of these:

and put the potato in without pricking for 5 minutes, then 2 minutes at a time until it is soft right through.
I then bung it in a hot oven to crisp up the outside but this is optional

To do a proper Jacket in the microwave please follow this recipie;
Get one meduim large potato and prick it with a fork. (this stops the potato exploding inside its skin)
Place the potato on a microwavable plate and pour cold tap water into the plate so it just stops underneath the rim. Cover the potato with a bowl ensuring no spaces, and microvave for about 10 mins.
The potato is therefore steamed cooked in the microwave and you will not get any hardness. Just be careful removing the potato from the oven as the steam inside the bowl will be extremely hot.
