Look for a little round red plastic thing stuck into the skin/meat of the turkey - in their opinion, when the turkey has cooked long enough, the center of the timer will pop up. I always cook mine longer than that though.
I work in Sainbury's where they sell turkeys with a pop-up timer. All you need to do is cook your turkey as you normally would and the red part will pop up when the turkey is cooked. I've heard it's marvellous and people have said how good it is and that their bird was perfectly cooked. However, you always need to make sure the juices run clear and that it's piping hot, yadda yadda yadda. But just leave it in there and it'll rise up as it cooks. Good luck!!
My husband bought the turkey last year. He got it from Sainsbury's. It was in the oven a lot longer than I would normally have cooked it and still the blooming pop up didn't come up. Turkey eventually cooked and up popped the timer but I think it was in the oven too long. He offered to get it this year but it was a definate no. I have bought a crown but definately no pop up.
The internal organic material is specifically designed to dissolve at specific predetermined temperatures, it is solid under normal temperature and fixed the stem. Once the firing material dissolves, the stainless steel spring releases the stem, allowing it to "pop up". This indicates that the food has reached the correct final temperature for safety and doneness.
