Smoking & Pubs

I'm no publican, but I did promise my favourite bar-lady I'd post this question on her behalf...
Licensees have long had exact guidelines on how to deal with someone who has already had too much to drink...what they can and can't say and what they can and can't do. It seems, though, that no such precise guidance has been offered on how to handle someone who lights a cigarette in the pub after July 1st.
I've hunted around the WWW to no avail, so - if anyone can point me towards an appropriate web-page, I'd be grateful.
* Please note that I am not looking for anything to do with the law itself, only what sort of "script" - for want of a better word - bar staff must now use. My thanks in advance.

They can use the same perogative that they, and any shopkeepers, have always had.

The publican or shopkeeper can refuse to the custom of anyone they want to, and demand that person leave the premises. If they don't comply, the police can be called.
i work in a bar part time and we've been told that if anyone lights up to politely remind them that's its now illegal to smoke in the bar and request that the move to the smoking area outside, if they fail to comply then they are asked to leave the premises. - if they don't go then they will be treated in exactty the same way that we would treat someone who starts a fight for example, they will rbe removed from the premises and barred!
