Look out for the Scottish variety 'Ava'. Our Tesco has them. They're what all strawberries should be. Sweet and full of flavour, even the partially ripe ones. Can't recommend them enough.

(A tip... If the variety isn't stated on the pack, look for strawberries where there's a white flower petal or two trapped under the green bit on top. Those petals are the clue to 'Ava' - they don't appear on other varieties of the picked fruit).

Useless info time, in case you wondered....developed by the Angus Soft Fruits consortium - costs �500 000 to make their minds up - and then named it after Eva Izzac, strawberry 'breeder' in Israel.....The variety has actually been around since 2001.

And Ava s/berries even have their own little website, bless....http://www.avastrawberries.com

I also recommend 'Jubilee' as a late crop variety if you want a last burst of taste from the end of the summer - lovely texture, right flavours and colours, and great to drop into a glass of Strawberry champagne, from Cairn O'Morr.....mmmmmmmm

English strawberries are the best, IMO. However Scottish raspberries are to die for :o)

Better than Scottish strawberries is Ben n Jerry's Strawberry Cheesecake icecream, very filling and yum. Add sliced scottish strawberries on top and you have a great filling, healthy, dessert.

Good tip about 'Jubilee', Nickmo. I've been buying 'Ava' locally for some years now.
Dunno about Cairn O' Mohr though. Personally, I wouldn't use their stuff for cleaning windows, though it might make a good job of it!! ;-)
