As far as I can see there is no major grower of Bananas in europe....the large majority of bananas are grown in ther caribbean.

I think you will find it may be Portugual or Spain. Both have offshore islands in the Atlantic which are warmer and grow lots of 'nanas - Madeira is Portuguese and the Canary islands (Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria) are Spanish. Both export to the rest of Europe under favourable EU export arrangements - it caused quite a stir with the Carribean producers particularly in UK, who got upset about their UK market being hijacked.
Cyprus also grow lots but are on the small side.
