Do you love it or hate it? How much would you need to eat to get a decent daily dose of iron? I like a wee scraping on buttered toast but can't see that it is giving me much.

Even the smell makes me feel sick - it is one of those 'tastes'
i don't like it. but i lurve Vegemite!
I hate Marmite, never tasted Vegamite.
Marmite is absolutely wonderful! But isn't it amazing that something invented in Germany and named after a type of French cooking-pot should now be seen as so quintessentially British? (Sorry, BB, but I've no idea about the answer to the dietetic aspect of your question.)
Yeuuuk
Love it on toast, especially with peanut butter, couldn't see any mention of iron but click here for nutrition http://www.marmite.com/marmite/ingred.html
I don't dislike it but I prefer Bovril.
Delicious, especially spread all over Mel Gibson.......
love it love it love it - there is nothing more appetising than a piece of toast and marmite that you have just made for someone else!
I love it! I think it must be one of those things where people either do or do not have a specific gene which makes people like it or dislike it.
Love it, love it, love it.

"Piercing" a new jar of Marmite was enjoyed by me, almost as much as stabbing the silver foil on a new jar of coffee. But my dad usually got there first and disrupted the smooth top as soon as it was back from the supermarket to spite me (and even before the old jar was finished, which in all other cases was sacrilegious!)

But I had the last laugh. When I was younger, I used to plunge my finger into the jar, all the way to the bottom, then ram it in my mouth and keep it there for what seemed like an hour, although it was more likely around 55 minutes.

Guess I've just blown my cover though, because at least one of my parents reads this site...

Oddly enough, I hate Vegemite. Oddlier still, as Quizmonster says, it's German... but incredible difficult to find in Germany. The only place I've seen it, in fact, is the Piccadilly English Shop. (Great place, sells Ribena, Walker's crisps, Cadbury's chocolate etc.)

And the best ways to eat it, in order, are:
  • A thin layer on thickly-buttered (real butter) toasted white bread;
  • With very strong farmhouse extra mature cheddar in a toasted sandwich;
  • On a cheesy roll with garlic and herb Boursin or Philadelphia;
  • In a baguette with strong farmhouse extra mature cheddar and tomato.
It's the devils vomit.
Love it, but haven't had any for ages - will put it on my shopping list. Quick tip from Nigella Lawson...cream a little marmite with the butter before you spread it on. That way it's even & not either too much or too little on each mouthful!!
i love marmite!! and vegemite! mm mouth is watering now might go and have some on toast!
Lurve it! Can't get enough of the stuff!
Lovely stuff. Also very good if you put it in french onion soup (although not too much cos that stuff is salty already and you'll start getting those pains in your left arm very quickly)
