dont have a tried and tested recipe but I suppose at this late stage anything will help. If you just google chocolate cake or chocolate icing I am sure you will find something to help.
pop to teco, pick up a betty crocker choc cake mix and some of the squeezy tubes of ready made icing that you can write with, go home make as directed then sit back and take the credit ;-) lol
Our chocolate bithday cakes are always topped with melted Dairy Milk with our ages spelt out in Smarties. The sides and middle are spread with butter icing with chocolate buttons stuck all round it. Very delicious and sweet enough to make your teeth rattle.
i use the choc cake recipe from this site.

I make this -it is quite an old American recipe that my mother gave me: 1/2 cup cocoa(NOT drinking choc),1 cup SR flour,1 cup sugar -1/2 white,1/2 soft dark brown,1/2tsp baking powder, pinch salt. 1/3 cup veg oil or melted marg,1/4 cupmilk,1/2 tsp vanilla,1 egg. Beat wet ingrediants well, then add dry and mix until combined-pour into floured and greased 8" tin, bake for aprox 40 min.......double this if you want to make a layer cake. I cover it with either a choc buttercream, or I mix 1cup cocoa with 1 1/2 cups icing sugar-to this I add water a bit at a time until it is the consistancy of thick custard-beat well....pour onto the cake and spread gently so it runs down the sides.
