Because the 'in season' ones are reared in this country, and are generally sweeter, and less expensive than the imported ones which are available when the crop is out of season here.
spanish strawberries taste bland compared to our strawberries funny enough so do there tomatoes.ive tasted some nice ones over in spain ??are they sending us there rubbish??
yank strawberries are being sold in the supermarkets, whilst english ones are in season (cor blimey) - why? cos apparently the UK suppliers cannot meet the supermarket's demands. what a crock (as our lovely friends across the water would say). Boycott supermarkets and get down to yer local fruit and veg and buy british strawbs.
My husband bought two boxes of Sainsbury raspberries on Saturday for a bbq on Sunday. When we opened them they were all mouldy, even though they were still in date! From now on, we shall open the sealed boxes & check before buying, rather than having to go back for a refund!
funny you should say that smudge,we bought some carrots and strawberries from sainsburys and 2 days later the ******* were rotten???p.s smudge how do you cook they on the barbie then?
vinny100, I meant for after the bbq of course! Sainsburys are not all they are cracked up to be these days. Asda seem to have fresher food though & it's cheaper. Hope you took your carrots & strawberries back for a refund. If you didn't they're never going to know & carry on selling rank fruit & veg!
