I've had a slow cooker, quite literally for years, sitting in a cupboard in my kitchen... never used it!

can anyone recommend a good recipe book, or is it far more simple than that? I don't have the first idea!

lol Sara it wasnt a proper factory, its a shop, so didnt have much fun.

gave an evil eye to this man as i was queuing to pay.. .. because im Chinese, he looked at me then turned round to his wife... oh we better watch out these dont contain those dodgy Chinese powder milk!.

i felt like punching him. how rude.
look just get a cook book and multiply all the times by two.

not brain science is it?
Question Author
thanks Mark and Shaney. I think if I could just get started I'll be away. I'll look up both books :o)
Question Author
WhiteBear.. he actually said that? how very rude!

grivitate.. yeah, rocket science by that standard ;o)
sara

my work colleage .. sets the cooker in the morning, by the time he gets home from work, Teas ready! lol
Question Author
yeah, that's what I'd like to achieve. I'll just have to be a bit more organised in the mornings :o)
Once you get the hang of it sara you will wonder what you did without it .I 've used one for over thirty years .In fact I'm on my third cooker . Really useful bit of kitchen gear .You can just bung it all in and come home to a nice hot meal .They are worth their weight in gold at this time of the year .You can cook anything in them .From a joint of meat to a cake ! Plus they are very economical with electricity .Great for stews and soups etc in the cold weather .
Have a look at Money Saving Old Style in the internet sight called MoneySaving Expert.com - I have had some really good recipes from it. Dont be afraid of your slow cooker just bung in a load of ingredients switch it on and walk away for a few hours - the results are usually fab
Well I think you cant beat the recipe that I use I just get a nice bit of stewing steak cut into smallish cubes, a packet mix for beef casserole(now you might get some people turn there nose up about a packet casserole mix but it always turns out nice) mixed with half water and half wine or cider then add another quarter to half a pint of liquid more than it says on the package.

Now comes the fun part just literally throw in what you feel like EG oxo cube, soya sauce, garlic or onion, any vegetables you may like, carrots celery etc,(no lettuce of course) home made stock, herbs ,spices.

Just ad what you feel like and it always turns out super, smashing.

Slow cook for at least 2 hours then if you want to you could add some cream in at the last 15 minutes or if you put half a tin of cambells condensed oxtail soup in it near the end that always finishes it of.

But to me the best way is just add what you feel is right and you wont go wrong.

Oh and one last thing dont forget to put dumplings in for about 15 minutes.

sir.k, you are full of surprises, thank you!

woozer.. a joint of meat? I thought everything needed a sauce to cook properly. I evidently need a recipe book!
I do a mean spicy mince pancake covered with cheese sauce now that is delicious.

It might not sound that nice but I can assure you it is scrumdubuleoush
And I am an expert at tossing pancakes as well
Question Author
but not in a slow cooker, I assume ;o)
Na, sorry got a bit carried away there. But you could cook all the mince and its other ingredients in there but it would not really be worth it
