Im having a cheese and wine night, whats the strongest tasting cheese I can get, or the most unsual cheese..any suggestions..??

in morrisons recently they were doing a chocolate cheese. a bit 'unusual' as you request. but i havent been for a while, and it may have just been a feature flavour. the strongest plain white cheese ive tasted is called black bomber, it comes in a black wax, but this seems to be more available in the local deli's rather than chain supermarkets.

For excellent strong flavour cheeses I would suggest OLD AMSTERDAM or ISLE OF MULL CHEDDAR but not pre wrapped type

Extra special brie type is VACHERIN MONT D'OR

Casu Marzu " Maggot Cheese" it is an Italian delicacy. It stinks and is full of maggots but it actually tastes really good - I had it a couple of years ago in italy

I have heard of that 1, but Im not brave enough to try it...gulp..

I used to have a deli and the one cheese I had to stop selling was EPOISSES it really stank,didn't taste to bad if you get that far.If I remember correctly it was the rind that was smelly I think it was washed in beer. Another one good as a talking point is CORNISH YARG.I used to get people to guess what it was wrapped in .............Nettles!!!

My father-in-laws favourite cheese is Cornish Yarg!
Another unusual one is Y Fenni which is Welsh and has mustard seeds in it.
My favourite blue cheeses at the moment are Blacksticks Blue and Garstang Blue.
