Here's an easy step by step guide:-
1. Raise kettle into air (ie off worktop) and transfer it to kitchen sink (important not to use any other sort of sink)
2. Turn cold water tap on and encourage water to be directed into above mentioned kettle
3. Return kettle to worktop and either plug it into electricity supply or onto stand. Turn kettle on (another important part of the process)
4. Open cupboard or drawer containing suitably sized saucepan and remove said item
5. Place saucepan on hob and wait for kettle to finish pre-heating the water
6. Turn off kettle (may not be necessary if you are living in UK in 20/21 century, as this may be an automatic process. However, watch out for a long time to elapse as The Old Wives know that *a watched kettle never boils*)
7. Fill saucepan with boiling water from kettle, ensuring that all small children, pets and useless spouses are removed from the area first
8. Turn on heat supply to hob - very important and tricky this one, may be various fuel sources available
9. Bring water to what is generally called *the boil* - a useful tip here is to watch for *bubbles* to emanate from the pan.
10. Finally, follow rest of recipe.
11. Ignore above instructions if you are making anything labelled *instant*... see different response at later date
