Ive always thought that a brown egg looked a lot healthier and gives the illusion of being laid by a fit healthy free range chicken, where the white ones that look to me like they've been laid by a sick malnourished battery chicken!
Apparently it is breed that determines shell colour,so I suppose there are certain breeds that are in common use for egg laying.

WOW! Pastafreak,i did'nt know that and what was equally surprising was how many different breeds there are of chickens, ill never look at a bucket of kfc the same again! (in a good way as i love it!)
Most people now think like MrHurlAbuse - that the brown ones look healthier than white ones, though there is absolutely no difference. The white ones are probably sold to catering firms, though I have seen them for sale on markets. Funnily enough in the good ol' US of A all the eggs for sale in supermarkets are white.
