I have a fab recipe for a dopiaza, I would just like it a bit hotter but I don't want to alter the flavour which is lovely. Which spice do I add more of to heat it up a bit?
It has onion, ginger and garlic pureed then you cook that and add ground coriander, ground cumin, chilli powder and turmeric.
Could I put a chilli in or would that alter the flavour? Thanks

De-seed the chillies & wear rubber gloves when chopping them.
adding a little more ginger along with the chillis will also help to increase the hotness.

adding chilli will alter the flavour . too much ginger overpowers the taste of the othert spices best thing to add to curries to heat them up is cayenne pepper
try adding more water/stock and reduce it down very gently/slowly, this will intensify the flavours and the heat..

Thank very much everyone for the advice, I will try your suggestions.
Sorry for the delay in getting back, had a few computer problems, I will put the recipe on in the next day or so, it is worth a go if you want a tasty curry that's not too hot (it's the only one my kids will eat!)
