Does anyone know where I could get hold of the kind of whole fresh chillies you get in Kebab shops? They are usually big and green, almost luminous in colour. They are very mild and have a more pickled taste than anything resembling hot..

They are Jalapeno chillies, they sell them in any supermarket. They are in jars either pickled or in water.

I don't think they're jalapeno are they?  They're just pickled chillies, not hot at all.  I didn't think people really ate them - they're horrible!

They are definetly NOT jalapenos!!! - They are an aquired taste, i'll grant you :) - all the ones I have found in Supermarkets (and I've tried Waitrose, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsburys) have been far too hot. They're very very mild, the one's I'm after!

The large chillies (5-9 inches) should be available fresh in a decent Oriental supermarket.  Before serving, soak in white (spirit) vinegar for as long as possible.  Great with noodles!
You can make them.  Get some long chillies (any colour) and place them in a pan with some hot wine or spirit vinegar.  simmer until a little soft, i like to add some garlic too.  let the pan cool and transfer to jars making sure the vinegar covers the blighters.  refridgerate for a week or so and bingo, pickled spicy kebab peppers.
Not sure what natalie and Buddy mean but jalapenos are mild chillies.
I beleive they are picked Pepperoncini chillies. See the following Wikipedia article:

A company called Olymp make jars of these picked chillies. You can probably get them from Turkish shops.
Just bought a couple of 'Piment Vert' in our local supermarket, in France, as looked very similar to those from the UK Kebab vans, which like you I love. Just bit about an 1" off the end of one and mouth on fire. Yogurt only thing that helped. Perhaps if deseeded and cored might be OK to eat or use for cooking. If you go here big list of peppers but could not find what we are looking for. https://www.cayennediane.com/big-list-of-hot-peppers/ Have you asked the local kebab man where he gets them from? I might try that next time I am back in the UK or get my son to. French Kebabs are crap and are definately not genuine Elephant Leg as per the Greek and Turkish ones in the UK. Happy hunting.
They are Lombardi Peppers. You can get them from any high street fruit and veg stall or from ASDA already pickled.
