Had my first mince pie of the year today, a Kipling one and it was delicious! But are there other better brands? I heard talk in the office of Marks & Spencer and Waitrose ones being the best, but i'd like to find out your opinion. So, who makes the best mince pie? And don't say homemade, coz i love 'em too, but I cannot be bothered to make a load of them and bring them into the office to be eaten in a matter of minutes!! ooohhh that Kipling one was so good.................

yuk i hate mince pies but have also heard the m&s and waitrose r the best

My family will never let me get away with buying shop mince pies, so every Christmas Eve, I am up to my eyeballs in flour, icing sugar & star/christmas tree shapes for the tops! They say "There's nought like Mum's 'home made".

Sorry that wasn't much help!

I really like Greggs the bakers', especially the ones with brandy in.  Dunno if they're identical all over the country though.
My dad - he's been a baker since he was 17 so they're the tastiest, yummiest, home cookiest, mmmmmiest mince pies you'll ever have in your life!! :)  Especially when they're still warm with a perfect cup of tea watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang/ Mary Poppins/ Alice in Wonderland, etc...... :D
M&S' are great.  Sayer's are also shockingly good. Mmmmm I love Christmas....
I think that Mr Kipling are the best but they are very expensive. If you get them from Morrisons or Asda they din't taste as good but they are very cheap.
Tescos - The ones in the silver box - not the cheap ones

You paint such a perfect picture, natalie !!

It's wouldn't be the same these days - eating mince pies 'in front of the PS2 or watching the latest blockbuster on DVD'  just doesn't sound the right !

Interestingly enough I'm reviewing a different mince pie each day between now and Christmas.   You can read my current findings at http://mincepies.blogspot.com

M&S is winning at the moment, but I've had no homemade ones yet, and that's where I think the clear winners will be.

Thanks for your interest.

For the easiest peasiest homemade mince pies, roll out some puff pastry and spread a jar of mince meat on top. Then roll up into a sausage, slice, place on a tray and bake. So easy, and so yummy. They end up nice and sticky mmmm. Made some today - they'll be gone by the morning! Happy Christmas, everyone!
