I buy lean back bacon but still cut as much fat off as possible, and like Boxtops I could only eat any bacon fat if it was really crisp. Plus I grill it rather than fry.
I love it too epecially raw. On a school exchange visit to Germany years ago the family I stayed with used to buy a slab of it about 3 inches thick with a rind that you sliced and ate with salt. Very unhealthy and very delicious. Maybe someone would know if it had a special name?
I've heard of the French eating raw bacon. I wouldn't even want to try it - I'm guessing it would taste slightly like parma ham? (which I hate)
I always tell my husband off because I think it would clog the arteries badly. Does anyone know if this is the case?
I can understand people eating the crispy fat rather than the jelly type of fat
Yea, bacon fat is lovely, but only if crispy. I always grill my bacon and it always has to be well done.... - a bacon butty would be nice now, if only i had some bacon!
We had belly pork yesterday, the crackling was lovely, couldn't resist it, the diet will resume again tomorrow. We also had crispy grilled bacon and fried egg sandwich for breakfast this morning.
