Is i wtour imagination that english strawberries now have hardly any taste and are not sweet. Unfortunately we can only buy from supermarkets as disabled/

Ones I grow, big ones called 'fillbasket' is an old variety, and later on the small sweet what I call jamming strawbs are called 'gardener's delight' are lovely and sweet with a real strawberry taste
most commercial growers grow Elsanta, quite flavourless but will stay in good shape for a few days once picked.

Kentish strawberries are on sale in Tesco - they are growing them now in the huge area dedicated to food production in Thanet. They are lovely, and no food miles.
I protested very strongly to Tesco last year, local farmers were having to throw away their lovely Victoria plums because the store wouldn't pay a decent price for them - instead they brought in those bullet-hard purple plums from Spain. I bought no plums from Tesco last year on principle.
