Chipati flour

I went to Tesco yesterday and stupidly forgot my glasses I bought a 5kg bag of what I thought was basmati rice, came home and decanted it into a big rice storage jar only to realise its chapati flour and lots of it ! I cant make chapatis so can I use this flour for pastry or cakes and would I need to use baking powder or would I be better to launch it and be more careful next time ?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Chapatis are easy to make - I do them instead of wraps for the kids and they also like them hot with jam or honey. You could just use it up that way. i dont usually use chapati flour, I usually use a brown bread flour, so you may be able to use it for bread or rolls - I would think it was a strong flour so not suitable for cakes or pastry, but someone with more experience of baking may be able to help more.

thank you ladies for the replies, 4getmenot I can now see the funny side too, I will try and make chapatis just once.When I got outside Tesco a white van man tried to flog me a plasma tv luckily I had the sense to say no as the guy collecting trolleys told me that the box is geniune and the weight tallies but there is no tv inside, could have been a double disaster !
