Does any one still eat Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney Pie cooked in the tin! Noticed they have made a comeback on Supermarket shelves! What other Steak and Kidney pies are good and any good home made recipes welcome!

I used to have them alot, well my husband liked them more than I, although did love their flakey pastry topping !
Yes, bought some a couple of weeks ago when they were reduced to £1 each in Tescos. They're handy to have in the cupboard when I can't be bothered to cook. Not much meat in but the pastry is nice.
Vile.
I make my own pie filling and freeze it in portions. I'm no good at making pastry so buy supermarket frozen.
Much nicer to knock up a quick pie using those ingredients than buying tinned pie, and not much more effort.
I've got one on my store shelf now, useful for when we run out of anything else - and keeps for ages before you have to eat it.
I don't like them myself, but years ago my best mates hubby (fiance then) went camping with his friend, and for one of their meals they had a (raw) FB pie in a saucepan with a tin of beans!!! YUK
I once bought an Aldi steak pie and it was delish!
The pastry was short pastry the filling was plentiful.
It was huge and it fed 4 of us easily.
Fray bentos tinned pies are like vesta dried curries orrible...
You little gourmet poodi!
Why thank you ttfn...
We had a thread on Vesta curries a couple of weeks ago, people were rushing off to their pound shops to have a memory tasting. There are some on sale on eBay.
Boxtops saw it on sale in poundstrechers, anyone remember the dried veg called "swell"?
'For Mash get Smash' Smash was a poor imitation of potato as I recall
Are you on commission boxy? Me thinks there will be a hungry lady in Kent ...........
Great advert though sandy...
Mr Mash is a very good dried potato now - we use it all the time, much better than Smash. If I buy potatoes, soon they are growing arms and legs, we eat so few live ones - not worth buying fresh in our house.
smash still available Sandy unfortunately!
I do still have a Smash 'martian' brooch!!
Cant beat the real thing,a maris piper or rooster, king edward even, mashed with cream and seasoned well, cant put that in a box...
A packet of Smash, a tin of Steak and kidney pie, and Bachelors marrowfat peas. A meal fit for a king.
True Sandy, especially after a few beers. Beats a doner kebab. Although a doner kebab always looks good after a few drinks.
