I agree luke-but mrs. c did say she is having trouble peeling spuds due to arthritis.
'Quick fixes' for mash have never been in my cupboards.
Question Author
Yes, it's on Delia's cheat's list ... so it can't be too bad, eh? :o)

Joeluke .... not difficult at all, except when you have arthritis in your fingers and have difficulty peeling the spuds (see my post above).
Thin ice, JL - only a couple of days ago, you said we had to do the ironing as well.....
Point taken Mrs C

Boxy, do you have small feet?

I don't know about the mash but frozen veg are horrible. Anyone agree?
only frozen veg allowed in my freezer are peas (birdseye) and breaded onion rings. and very occasionally, corn on the cob.
Yes JL - they fit under the sink on the rare occasions that I'm near it.
Some but not all,mrs.c....sweetcorn and baby broadbeans are yummy....and I have a thing for chopped frozen spinach-I love it,it's like comfort food. Fresh is also good-lol.
I forgot about petit pois(sp)... ;-)
We had raw baby spinach and beetroot salad with our tea last night, it was lovely!
Question Author
Oh yes, I was forgetting frozen peas. They're good. I was thinking about carrots and cauliflower .... not good.

I've never tried frozen spinach. I'll give that a go.
Frozen broad beans are good to keep if you like them. Never worth buying them fresh and podding them to end up with about 6 beans.
I absolutely adore sprouts but cannot stand frozen ones. The taste and texture are completely different.

I adore sprouts too mike, I always cook too many on Sundays so that on Mondays I cut them in half and fry them in butter (not marge) & with a sprinkle of nut-meg they are delish with your A B Mash.

i never peel spuds, apparently most of the vitamins are in the peel, i just give em a good old scrub. chuck em in the pressure cooker, hey presto, spuds ready for mash
But i will not knock people who use smash or quck fix spuds.
My tough glaswegian mum, she insisted on always peeling spuds, even with really bad arthritis, it was her way of keeping her joints moving, She was the original no pain no gain!!
That sounds tasty, Jem, will give it a try one day. Shan't bother with the frozen mash, though, as I think that's a step too far down the road of idleness, even for me. Only thing of Aunt Bessie's I buy is frozen Yorkshire puds, and then only because I live on my own and if I made one from scratch most of it would be wasted.
Frozen broccoli, cauli, carrots, and fine/runner beans are foul...and sprouts in any form are to be avoided. I tried frozen butternut squash.....I will give it a miss.
I use frozen baby broad beans for rissotto.... I even pop them out of their skins.
