Is it all normal (not herbal) tea that leaves a tang in your mouth after you've finished it, or is it only cheap brands that do?

its probably the local water.
I find it happens regardless of price.

It's the same at my nan's house, who has a completely different water supply, and she has cheap tea aswell.

If tea's the only hot drink available and it's a cold day I have to have it milky, sweet and weak else it leaves a horrible aftertaste.

so next time youre near a shop buy yourself a little box of teabags and keep them in your bag to use for just you, then youll find out if its the water, the brand of tea or just the way tea is.

Me and my nan have completely different water supplies, one of us has hard water, the other soft and we both have cheap tea which is horrible if there's hardly any milk or sugar in it, and the problem is made worse if the tea is strong aswell.

No, but it's not good to have that much sugar in one mug of drink.
I've not drank tea for years and after a visit to a tea plantation and porocessing plant in Sri Lanka I discovered why, I'll not go into details but lets just say they're not that interested in the health and hygene act. I know you can probably say the same about a lot of things but I've not had personal experiance of those
