could somebody please let me know whether the top from say a 500ml bottle will fit the 330ml bottle?

OK - I shoulda explained.  I am running in a half marathon on Sunday where 330 ml bottled water WITHOUT tops will be given out.  I want to carry the water whilst running without spilling it so's I am taking a spare top with me - however - shops by me don't sell the 330ml size..........

Why don't you buy one on those bottles made exactly for that purpose with the hole through the middle so it's easier to carry?  The water is handed out quite regularly, and it's only a half marathon so you shouldn't need a bottle with you at all times. 

I always found that I would just need one mouthful every little while or else I would get stitch.
