I was reading on the net yesterday that Halal butchers are much cheaper than supermarkets or non Halal butchers.

Anyone shop in a Halal butchers?

Would you recommend them?

It's not the same but I'm jsut saying i wouldn't eat any of those three, for the same, ethical reasons . . .
I see, it just sounded odd when you said it :-)

My point about pheasants...they are shot so there is a good chance that they do not die instantly. People don't seem to moan about that though.
I won't eat Halal meat either. Such a cruel method of slaughter. All NZ lamb is slaughtered by the Halal method and some English but the supermarkets don't label it as such which I feel is wrong. Even some chickens are now being slaughtered that way.
I don't believe an animal necessarily experiences pain during Halal slaughter, but I find it difficult to believe it doesn't realise it has been severely injured by those it trusted. Aye, I am informed the ducks get to look forward to their food stuffing, when French farmers are producing fois gras; but it's only what I have read. No I'd avoid that too as it also seems cruel.

So what did they do before they invented the stun gun?
You should shoot it properly next time ummmm.
What they did in the past would be what they thought right to do. It is a different place, we should be concerned with what we do.

Oh no Geezer....I could never kill anything. Eat it yes...kill it no. I'd happily give up eating meat...
Ah I see, there was a point to pheasants, I am guilty of not reading entire threads, thought you were just asking, "who likes Pheasant".
And now that I have read on a bit, yes, there is a chance that game will suffer before eventually dying and it is interesting how we measure what we are prepared to eat based on the method of slaughter/kill etc.... Its echoes the free range argument, it isnt the animal that bothers people but the lifestyle the animal leads before a humane "excecution"

Slitting the throat is a quick death though..
perhaps those who are against halal meat should make sure they're properly educated about the process before making statements which may not be quite true:

I was going to say that Ethan but I didn't find the back up. I had heard it though..
"Most ..." ? "The idea is ..." ?
I think opinions can differ on what is considered cruel and what not.
Question Author
So is wringing a chicken neck less cruel than slitting it?
I deeply resent your patronsing attitude there ethandron!

As for "educating" me, for every newspaper article you post, i can counter post with another....

Not particularly but there again discussing wringing necks is just widening the issue. Off the top of my head I'd suggest gassing (if using the correct gas) would be the most humane. The second link refers to the animal being in pain whilst unconscious. Have to say I've never been aware of feeling pain whilst unconscious, so suspect the account is not unbiased.

Widening the issue geezer....look at what I asked :-)
