If a recipe says sunflower oil can i use veg oil instead ?

don't see why not but depends on what you are making?
Agree with mcfluff... Sunflower oil, along with Canola, Safflflower and Flaxseed have very low "smoke points", meaning they won't abide by high temperstures, such as deep frying. Other than that consideration it's as good as any...
