I have never eatern fish ( not since a bad experience at school about 30 years ago anyway!!) But think it's about time I got a grip!!! Have bought some tuna steaks ...... thought this might be a good way to start .... what can I do with them that's simple but tasty??
fry them gently and not for too long and they'll be like very tender pork steaks. if you overdo them, they go a bit tough. my husband had a bad experience with fish when he was a child but will always eat tuna steaks or salmon. fresh tuna doesn't taste too 'fishy' either.
slice into fingers, dust with seasoned flour and toss in a little hot oil in a frying pan.
serve with fresh lemon or lime juice or tomato ketchup and chips mmmmmmmm
Funnily enough I eat loads and loads of fish (practically every day) but the one fish I can't bear is tuna. Except for that in tins. I wish I did like it. Perhaps I don't like it because it tastes too meaty (which I am not that keen on) so it should be a good thing to start off with echokilo.
I tell you what is totally yummy and not too fishy and thats river catfish fillet. Youngs sell it in packs of frozen fillets, they call it Basa. Toss into a frying pan in a very little hot oil while still frozen and cook gently turning once. When its done, add a little salt and pepper to the pan, the juice of half a lemon or lime and a knob of butter. Dish onto a warm plate and pour the pan juice over. This is quite a fragile fish once thawed so turn with care. I actually like mine slightly over cooked (turn the heat up briefly at the end rather than increase cooking time) this turns the outside of the fish slightly golden and crunchy
I've been going sea fishing for years and I've eaten most kinds of fish but I cann't stomach Mackeral and Tuna. I don't know why the flesh looks loverly but no matter how we've cooked it the thought of eating it makes me gag
I'll never look at a fish in the same way again since my daughter refers to every attractive boy she comes across as FISH - Fit, Intelligent, Sexy & Hot.
Go for some salmon fillets, place in tinfoil, put a knob of butter on top and sprinkle with some lemon juice. Cook for 35 minutes in a hot oven, 180c. serve with some creamed potatoes, carrots and peas and tarter sauce, lovely..................
