There was no virus on the PS3 network, it was a bug to do with the older model PS3s 'thinking' it was a leap year and this caused them to be unable to go online.

Looks like my PS3 had virtually no problem at all after all that. It thought 2010 was a leap year so the date was one day out but nothing besides that.
