Earlier I asked advice about the Nintendo Wii but i'm wondering now would it be better to get an X-box or Ps3 instead?

Split screen is perfectly playable, if you have a large enough TV :)

Modern games often seem to concentrate on making the graphics look stunning but some seem to forget that the game actually has to be playable.

I am unsure why games drop their prettiness so much in multiplayer - left4dead is a good example of of this. Maybe these machines aren't as powerful as we've been sold?

Or is it the split processor thing?

ah left for dead was very repeatative. left 4 dead 2 is the exact same game! just different levels!

I dont find Split screen gaming good at all its not only distracting but kinda defeats the object of being sneaky if the person sharing the screen is looking at your section!
Also i dont want to have the hassle of going out round friends or having them round each time i wanna play, its so old hat now!

All my mates used to do that! We all used to play split screen when there wasnt a better alternative but now there is thank the lord!

@ sooper, the best online gaming is to be found on the PC, it really is as simple as that.

Wii's are great fun (for a while) and it's the only console you'll ever see your granny play. Plus they're backwards compatible with the Gamecube so there's a ton of awesome games available.

The 360 is vastly more powerful, has a ton of great games but it's (the pad rather) best at shooting games (Call of Duty, Halo etc) it's also a bit on the noisy side, you have that huge brick of an external power supply and you have to pay for the online service, which in this day and age is not cool (it's a way of getting extra money out of spotty teenagers because their parents pay the internet bill)

The PS3 is the most powerful of all and it does more than the rest. Multiplatform games are virtually identical to the ones you'll find on the 360 but the exclusive titles are just mindblowing! The PS3 (pad) is not as well adapted for shooters but it's better than the 360 at everything else. It's almost silent, it has bluetooth (something which until you use it, you don't care about) the online service is free, it plays Blu Ray discs (amazing!) and it supports BBC iPlayer, LoveFilm and it has a built in web-browser (the 360 doesn't)

Playstation 3, it only does everything.

@ Chappers, Yeah we all know that PC gaming is the best on-line but this was a question about console gaming? Doh!
Oh and your wrong, the 360 wee's all over the PS3, ive played both having friends with both consoles and as far as on-line gaming is concerned its far superior. Ok you have to pay for it and i'd rather not if im honest but Microsoft is never gonna give anything away for free! Its only about 70 pence a week which in the grand scheme of things is nothing .
I could sit and debate everyone of your points but at the end of the day the 360 is the better machine for gamers, especially if you are going On-line with it.
