Freebmd.org is free
1881 census on familysearch.org is free. You can also access births and marriages on this but not all info is completely trustworthy, but you can get some info that might help
Then as AB Ed says, people on here always wiling to help where possible as there are a few who have access to these sites and dont mind looking up the odd thing or two if you are stuck
Good luck
dotty will be popping onto here at some time today and I know she has an email address she gives out for doing trees. If you have started your tree I am quite happy to look things up for you, but as I'm in the middle of about 6 trees at the moment I wouldn't take a whole new one on.
Thank AB Editor, the inforamtion I am looking for is a birth certificate for my dad he was born in Lambeth I think(he always said that Bow Bells were ringing when he was born - how he knew that I don't know - perhaps just a clever clogs) on 1st March 1901 I have got one certificate (ref: Vol. 01d Page 327), but on looking the address up it said one child at that address with the name Frank under 1 year old, my dad was an only child and name was Arthur George Taylor. Can anybody please help me I have been trying to get started on this side of my family tree for a few years and seem to be getting nowhere.
Hi craft 1948 It isn't 1911 but 1901, and I do not know his parents name - I am not a lot of help am I, and I have nobody to ask all my relatives are dead.
sorry I thought you said you had his birth certificate.............so am I right in that I'm looking in the 1911 census for Arthur George Taylor born 1901 in Lambeth, and an only child.
I do have a Birth Certificate, but I do not think it is the correct one, because the address on the certificate and the 1901 census are not the same, the census says one child named Frank and my dad didn't have any siblings, because his father died when he was very small.
Father Arthur George, Mother Sarah Bult, so what would be my next move, I didn't have any problems with my mothers family tree, but this one has been a nightmare, as nothing seems to tally
Thankyou craft1948 for all your help, but please don't put yourself out to much, you said you were busy with other family trees and I don't want to add to your work load,.
Meanwhile, whilst folk are very helpful here, I'd suggest it a little presumptuous to think they will do all your investigation for you, and anyway that is the fun part (well the finding of results is anyway). I don't know what you would consider 'not costing a lot of money'. I don't think most are excessive anyway. I have a basic account at Genes Reunited which is good for others making contact with you and vice versa (usually turning out not to be related, but not always) and I personally pay a monthly fee for Ancestry for the benefit of looking over the records: but the freebmd site would cover most of that if you are really short of the reddies.
Yeah ok before you embarrass me, a 1901 birth isn't likely to be on that last website :-O Still worth keeping for reference in case you wish to go further back.
