I have been adding children to my tree and have a few children that refuse to sort at all, some have sorted automatically as ty should, but others just don’t. I have been through the help menu but the picture advice they give looks nothing like my screen and the instructions bear no resemblance to my tabs and links? Has anyone got any ideas please?

Hi lyall,

are the records missing any data? They should sort automatically, based on date of birth. Blank data fields will sort higher than a leading zero (eg "01/01/51")

If all the DoBs are blank, it will sort on the next priority, which will be christian name (assuming all surnames the same).

As far as I can see there are no fields left blank except for marriages of the ones that are not my direct ancestors. All children have complete dates of birth, some have years of death some don’t, I avoid the zero's (0) as I know this has caused a problem in the past. I tried to get them inputted in order but then found extra children as a worked. Most of the ones I have put in have sorted automatically but there are 5 or 6 sets of children (ranging between groups of 7 & 16) that refuse to do anything.
Leading zeros are needed so that "04/" sorts ahead of "21/", because the 2 in 21 would sort ahead of "4".

Meanwhile, check the tree display settings to see if it is in UK date format (dd/mm/yyyy) or US (mm/dd/yyyy) and that this matches how you keyed in your data. (I don't know enough about *.ged files to say what date format they apply - a half keyed and half imported dataset could end up as a mess that you can only fix by hand). :-/
