I did find that entry too IAP, I have looked at the English Census 1841 -1891 and not found a James and Grace Gordon, did they go back to Scotland? I assumed they married sometime after 1841 when James was 21, I havn;t looked at the GRO marriage index yet but I did think they should have been on the English census if they marrried here in lancashire, but maybe they lived here between a census and returned to Scotland after the marriage but before the next English census.

Hello In a pickle and Dot, thankyou for looking it is the james born 1820 at lethnot other than that im quite lost their daughter Annie was married in 1883 and they were both alive then, i just wondered about the 901 census. The daughters death certificate definately says parents were James gordon and Grace Barnes
So in 1883, when Annie married, how old was she? and was she an only child or their only child? This is to narrow down the search for their marriage, possibly they married in the late 1850s early 1860's if Annie married in her early 20s?
I meant their only child ot their eldest child lol!

got annies marriage cert. here . she was 18 years old her husband alexander ross was 27
Question Author
the problem is im beginning to have my doubts about annies fathers details but there should be a birth cert for annie born21/12/1866 died 1 july 1943 dundee
annie was my gt grandmother
I have looked back to 1850 for the marriage in the English Index and nothing, They had their son in 1961 and Annie a few years later, but James at least would be in his early 40s then, that is unusual. He could have been married before, or Grace could have. I will carry on looking further back into the 1840s anyway, incase anyone gets to look before me, I have checked the GRO index of marriages 1861 back to 1950 all quarters.
sorry for getting the centuries mixed up i am watching Rambo and getting distracted lol
