The Zebulon Butler in the 1901 census in Kent and the Zebulon P Butler in the 1881 census on the Wirral are the same person.

There is a marriage listed between Zebulon Parkes Butler and Louisa Conlen Povah in Kensington in 1890 (I think!) and she is Louisa C Butler from 1901.

Louisa's birthplace is shown as Liverpool in both censuses and she may well have met Zebulon while he was living in Bebington, though I can't find her there in 1881

Now echokilo will say he's looking for the other Zebulon Butler . . .

Echo Kilo is a she not a he, but no matter ..... and yes, Hammond Egg, I am looking for the other one - the one in the Black Country/West Midlands!! Sorry folks!!

Am really struggling to find the connection but feel sure he is my ancestor having looked at the trees of others researching the family.

The key names in my tree are BUTLER and, wait for it Hammond Egg ........... HAMMOND !!!!! Don't suppose this is your family name and you are from the Midlands or Shropshire/Staffordshire?
Apologies EK!

You may already know this . . .

The one listed by RoaldoM as being born in 1832 has a marriage recorded in 1861 to Betsy Wright; though the marriage record gives his first name as "Zebulen"

Can't find them in 1871 . . .

But in 1881:
And at 15, Bull Ring, Sedgley . . . .
Betsy Butler, aged 44, a draper;
Elizabeth W Butler, aged 17;
Anne L Butler, aged 15;
Mary A Butler, aged 13;
Richard Z Butler, aged 10;
Sydney J Butler, aged 3;
James S Butler, aged 2;
Mary Butler, aged 72

Betsy is shown as the head of household, and married (not a widow) though there is no sign of Zebulon

The first four children have their birthplace given as "Cuba, West Indies" and are marked as British Subjects ( ie at the time of their birth)

Richard appears in the 1901 census, in Wanderers Ave., Blakenall; though his name has been transcribed to the ancestry index as Richard L

His wife is Lucy - almost certainly Lucy J Lane; they were married in 1896 in Dudley; the wedding record givees his middle name as Zebulon.

There are no children recorded in 1901

I do have Butlers - though no Hammonds - in my tree, and they are from the Black Country . . . .
