craft1948 offered his services on another thread, which was very kind of him. i wonder if he could find out about my grandfather on my dads side of which i know very little. his name was george william taylor born 16 october1882 died 15 april1979. He ripped all the information out of the family bible and destroyed all photos(don't know why) born in Hucknall Torkard. he married florence (don't know her second name) he had three sons, harold, sydney and george. that's about all i know, cheers lslowry

once again thanks dot
sydney was born in mansfield in oct-dec 1914 Q4 Vol 7B P310
he was indeed munchie and his mother's maiden name is given as Bainbridge so you were defo correct regarding the marriage......Munchie is the hero!!!

i am subscribing to ancestry as dot suggested to get the actual details on the information you have supplied. you've all been very busy and friendly much appreciated.
Start doing your tree on Genes Reunited ls..................it's only about £9.00 for 6 months membership, there is an email facility between members, very good tree-building sofware, a community/help board and a chat site...........
pleasure to have helped. I find it all fascinating and like the detetcive work.

craft.....Think I struck lucky with Bainbridge.....been down a few dead end streets looking at those records in the past, so it's nice to come up trumps first time for Is' tree
munchie when I started doing mine as a child I'd presumed my maternal grandad was an only child as we never met any of his family. He was born in 1901 and it wasn't until the 1911 census came out I discovered he had 2 brothers and 5 sisters!!
Anyway, well done again....:-)
The problem is that not one site we use for our research and tree building can offer everything we need, It's very much about the money making business, Find My past have spent millions on the 1911 census and are hanging onto it! Whether ancestry will ever try to buy the index is unsure, though i did read something. This is why some sites are good value for one thing and others for another. We are lucky on AB that we have a choice of members that use a variety of sites.
craft - similar situation with my grandad on my fathers side. Never saw/heard of any relatives until after he passed away and we found one of the memeorial plaques for his brother who sadly died in France in 1918. I found 2 sisters too, but only up to 1911, after that without the census info it's proving hard.
I found the last 2 of my grandad's sisters who were born after 1911 by purely putting his surname in, place of birth and the mother's maiden name circa 1915 on ancestry and out they popped....
This is where the tradition of a family bible comes in handy, i found all my great aunts and uncles on 3 sides just by reading their names in the family bibles, it also included their marriages, children, deaths too. One side however, were heathens and so i had to reply on a great aunt's memory, which was amazing up until she died 2 years ago, only a few months before she died I found out that her father had deserted his family during the first world war to go to newscastle and build ships and start a new family in a bigamous relationship, i don;t think even my late mum even knew about that one!
Hi there
I just had a look and found a George William Taylor who married Florence Pratt.
O.N.D. qtr 1903 Leicestershire
Hope it helps.
