Cost of GRO copy certs to increase to £9 I believe

If so that is a huge increase but if anyone needed to get any ordered it would pay to send for them sooner rather than later.

thanks for the link, I think it is a big increase if you look at it in monetary terms, but in terms of research it is probably going to have a varied response. It is inevitable that costs rise and the massive demand must mean there is a commercial element to consdier. The money the online sites make from subscriptions is huge but the GRO has not really had it's finacial bite of that cherry over the years, this will probably mean little in the way of advantage to Family Historians.

I have ordered 6 outstanding certificates for my family last night. ones that i have never bothered getting before, at a cost of £42 now as opposed to £55.50 later it made sense.
Does this apply just to certificates purchased from the GRO or to all Register Offices throughout the country? Reading the above link it looks as if it only applies to the GRO.

I normally write to the Register Office where the original BMD was registered to obtain the copies.
