What is a Medical Galvanist>
I have found an ancestor in Scotland who on his MMI was entered as William Harthill M.D. C.M. I assumed he was a doctor, but don't know what the C.M. stands for. I have found him on the census listed as a Medical Galvanist, and just before his death in 1872 he is M.D. of Nonvarde of Glasgow. Can anyone help? He died in 1872 at the age of 46 so I presume he caught something nasty from one of his patients as all the rest of the family lived until their 80's and 90's!
Thanks
