To dot, I see you have been to Kew before. I found out from the Irish Military Museum in Belfast that Kew National Archives have my grandfather's records for when he was in the Royal Irish Rifles in the first world war.They say I can search for them there myself if I want to, in person, (free) or they can do that for me and then send them to me (for a fee) Do you know what they charge for this dot? I am certainly not coming all the way down from Scotland just for that. Thanks

The best way is to email them and as long as you are able to narrow down the research parameters you shouldn't be too bad, but I suggest you buy one of the reputable magaxines, like Family Tree Magazine, and look at the research ads at the back.

bestdriver, before you commit to that, there are many of the records on ancestry.co.uk, i can look for your grandfather there if you want, they are the same records that are at Kew for the most part.

Sorry about the delay dot. My grandfather's name is Joseph Quirk(E). DoB 18th May 1890 in Cork.His army number was 3/23128/83 but that is all I have.I know he and his family were on the SS.Marburn that left Glasgow in May 1923 for Quebec.I do not know what happened after that. Thanks for your help.

he appears in the British Army WW1 Medal Rolls Index cards 1914-1920.
It just gives his name and number, that he was in the RIR and he was awarded the Victory Medal, roll number B/104 B 17 page 2528.

yes it's on ancestry.co.uk, I think I can download it and post it on here at some point when i work it out
