cheers craft that's brilliant! so Robert and sarah elizabeth must have been married when catherine was born, odd the mother;s maiden name was on the baptism. Robert long was born Old Machar Aberdeen according to one tree on ancestry.

i;ve found ada on the igi daughter of edward danson and mary eleanor thexton. baptised at kendal. guess they used the mothers surname in that parish too!
sorry dot...didn't see the Ada before the Eveline so it looks like I've given you the wrong family.......I'll have another look.
Question Author
oh cheers for that, who do you know on here that might be kind enough to look up robert longs aberdeen baptism for me?
is that on scotlands people?
Question Author
i'm not sure, i think they have baptisms on there but his birth was 1877 and so maybe there is a registration entry on there too.
Question Author
oh the scottish 1881 census is on ancestry so i;ve found robert aed 4 living with his grandparents! they were mcdonalds and benjamin named his first son, my work mates dad, ernest mcdonald long.
on IGI his birth was 1876 and his death was 21 OCT 1936. His mother is given as Marjory McDonald but father is just shown as Long.
ada's details are in a family tree on ancestry..
Question Author
are they/ I'll have a look, i've just found that aberdeen baptism, it looks like an ancestral file entry and they have taken marjorie as the mother cos she is the daughter in the 1881 census with robert and catherine,
Robert Long was born 6/11/1876

Father Robert Long, a Cork Cutter (I think it says Journeyman)
Mother Marjory McDonald

Date of marriage 28/7/1876

Do you want me to look at the marriage for the parents?
Question Author
oh great that's good, is that from the igi? i haven't looked for that i don;lt think
Question Author
if you could craft that would be great, on the mcdonald side patrick is irish born so likely to be stuck there
Question Author
i don;t know if you'll get the marriages for the parents as it might be too early,
Marriage 1876

Robert is 20 years old. His father is George Long, also a Cork Cutter and his mother is Sarah Edgar (deceased)
Marjory is 21. Father Patrick McDonald, a Street Paver, and mother Margaret Pirrie.
