I love green. It is my favourite colour. I cannot understand why anyone should think it is unlucky. I got married in a green dress (quickly as he was on embarkation leave) and we stayed married for 63 years - he died in 2009. Don't think there will be many can say that in the future. Our first car was green and it knew and loved me and I it. So there you are - you can say anything is lucky or unlucky that you want to, it doesn't really make it so.
The green pigment in many fabrics and wallpapers in Victorian and Edwardian times was arsenic based. Once it was discovered that the arsenic could be released, especially when te material became old, and cause illness, green was avoided. As often happens what was once sound practice became a superstition applying to all greens.
When I first lived in Scotland (and first came across religious intolerance) some of my friends who were Protestant weren't allowed to wear green, as it was considered a Catholic colour.
Hower - green's a lucky colour in Islam and other countries, the Irish love green, I wear green.
I adore the colour green. My wedding dress was green.....I love green and white in the garden and house. I don't think it's unlucky at all. My forefathers may have found it unlucky as it was the colour of the Catholic Irish and there was a time when an Irishman could be shot for wearing green. So maybe my history influences me a little and explains my reluctance to buy anything red. Well, except for the one pair of red killer heels I couldn't resist.
