The discovery at Durrington Walls is great but overnight I've got all riled about the apparent concentration on archaeological exploration resources being in the south of England.
Take for example Thornborough Henges - under threat from gravel extraction, public access denied, and yet totally fabulous

"Digging for Britain" was on BBC in July showing there were large digs going on all over the UK.

the thing about Stonehenge is that the stones are still standing. I don't think there's anything else like that in Britain. So anything near it, or seeming to emanate from the same people who built it, will share its glamour.

But that's just chance. Stonehenge would be just as good if it was outside Newcastle - it would get fewer visitors but that's because fewer people live near Newcastle. Nothing really to do with north or south, though.
