Three months after her birth in May 1819, another baby was born, this time a boy whose father was brother of the Duchess of Kent. This was his second son, named Albert, who would become Victoria's husband, Prince Albert. So these two were first cousins, their parents being brother and sister.

I knew they were cousins.

Yes, probably all of us slightly older folk knew that, but from time to time younger members of the Answerbank get to read information that might otherwise elude them. Teenagers seem to spend all their time on social media and gaming and not reading books.
your point is?

I posted the information which might not have found its way to some of the younger generation. I am eighty next year and I have learned many things over the past thirty years as the only information prior to then was from school, books and radio.

Medical science has moved on a lot since Victoria's day and we now know that first cousin marriages can cause problems for any children they may have.
Do you think that the fact of Victoria's marriage (and other aristos and influential people historically and more recently) is the reason that first cousin marriages are unlikely to be made illegal?
did you know Hitler was a product of Uncle and Niece?
I didn't know that, I thought they were second cousins with a big age gap, so Hitler's mother called her cousin/husband 'uncle'.

Carry on posting, Stargazer. If you are totally ignored then you will know what to do. If you get a bunch of answers, then you are interesting some people. The old rudies are not the only ones here, and it would do them good to have younger blood here (That was meant in the best possible taste).
Ahhh, the mist begins to clear. :-)
I can't think why the place isn't swarming with Gen Zers eager to be called snowflakes and eejits by their benevolent elders.
