I've heard that the practice of using a scarecrow actually comes from the ancient (and no longer used) tradition of sacrificing a man and putting him up on a stick in the fields for a good crop. Is there any truth to this, and what culture was it?

there may be some link, but my guess would be that all the sacrifices in the world won't keep the crows off; a straw man would be a good way of doing it.

Here's a living one here... moviemaker...(:)
