Has anyone else noticed that the US has eagle effigies mounted on staffs not unlike the Romans and the Nazis?

The US seem to be on their way to the next world dominating empire.

unlike the czechs and the poles ; )

I hope the US gets stronger and stronger because coming up behind them is China!

Who would you rather have dominating the world?

History will show that the U.S. probably became the dominant world power following WWII, certanly after the fall of USSR. Still and all, I can't remember who said of U.S. military might. "... all we've asked is land to bury our dead..." The eagle, by the way, is national symbol to several nations, including Mexico, Serbia, modern Germany, Russia, The Phillipines, Panama, and many more. I suppose we could have gone with Benjamin Franklin's suggestion of having the wild Turkey as the national symbol... thankfully we didn't argue with our friends to the north when the Canadiens chose the beaver...
'On their way'? They arrived some time back. But they spent the cold war telling communist countries to change, and now, as Toureman points out, are becoming nervous because China is actually doing it. The perils of getting what you ask for...

And it is really sad to note that while the US could have been a power for good around the world they chose to antagonise many countries by using various forceful methods to get things their way, this was OK for them when they were strong enough to influence everybody else with either money or force by being the ''only game in town'' and by supporting regimes which were bad but in the US favour, but now the Chinese have obviously taken a long look at the world situation and they are starting to spread their influence in many countries by being friendly with such things as development projects with no strings attached to the countries they are interested in - here read WHICH HAVE SPARE OIL.

As to the question of Empire I think you can forget any western power managing to do that now. That part of world history has finished, although some may not realise it yet (the US Neo-cons for example), after all the parts of the world which they would want (OIL again) are just too far away to effectively rule as seen by the mess in Iraq, but all those desirable countries are much closer to China and India for that matter and are mostly populated by people who would probably prefer to sell their oil to anybody except the western powers given the chance, just as a simple no risk way of getting back at the west.

The United states together with Britain, is a CONTINUATION of the Roman Empire. According the the prophecy in the Book of Daniel,[ Dan.2;31-45] there was an immense image with five parts. The parts signified world powers. The head of gold was Babylonia, from 607 B.C.E. The arms and chest of silver was Medo/Persia from 539 B.C.E. The hips and waist of copper was Greece, from 331 B.C.E and the legs and feet of iron was the Roman Empire. The feet, though, were a mixture of iron and clay [ strength and weakness] which we see today in America. This empire is the last one of the image. There will be no more until Jesus does away with all governments, and only after these same governments do away with 'Babylon the Great, which is described in Revelation as being separate from government and business.l It can only be religion. So the image of the eagle is very apt.
