Demonology is the "study" (don't laugh) of demons and so is a branch of theology

Satanism is a religion of sorts - Satanists don't actaully worship some big cloven hooved devil in the Dennis Wheatly/ Hammer House of Horror sense

But whichever way you cut it, it's all a bunch of hookum!

Demonology is the study, and (fair enough) possibly the worship of demons, common to most belief structures. Satanism is strictly a Christianity-derived belief (Satan being the Anti-Christ - have to believe in a Christ to believe in an Antichrist).
And he should know :)

why would someone be a follower of demonology?

you wouldnt follow demonology, you would study it

To first answer the question. Satanism and demonology are virtually one and the same. What Satan wants, they do. The bible clearly explains that demon possession is possible and has happened. Matthew 8; 28-33 and Luke 8; 26-34. .
