What is meant by major? Longest five are


Missouri 2540 miles


Mississippi 2300 miles


Yukon 1930 miles


Rio Grande 1900 miles


St Lawrence 1900

can the Rio Grande and St Lawrence claim to be US rivers? I suppose so, but they're borders.
What about Joan Rivers?

Actually, the Ohio River is considered a major river, as is the Arkansas and Columbia. The navagability of the Arkansas is the reason Muskogee and Tulsa, Oklahoma are both sea ports...
Being a fan of haiku, I would have to say, concerning the rivers...


But just remember,
It's not the length that matters,
It's how you use it.

I'm surprised the colorado is'nt up there with the big boys !

As I asked earlier, the problem is what is the definition of major? length, breadth, useage, number of towns/ cities sitting on it?


The Columbia river is about 1200 miles long. It can take ships of at least 7,000 tons as far Portland, but is it classified as major?
