I was wondering if anyone has any information or could point me in the right direction to get some, on a small plane crash that happened in 1953 in Wolstanton/Porthill Marsh in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffs. Apparently it was a light aircraft and the passenger died, but thats all i know. Any info greatfully received.

aeroplane crash in Porthill
In about 1953, a small aeroplane crashed on the Marsh. . .I wonder if anyone remembers it?
I was a little girl, living with Mother in Porthill, and my brother was at the Grammar School. He came home for lunch full of the story. I never heard if the pilot was ok?
I now live in Kentucky, and found your website just while 'surfing'. I am a gramdma now and was delighted to see pictures of other parts of Staffordshire. Oh the joys of the Internet!! Sincerely

Thanks Mikeyd2 ;)
The plane was a gloster meteor, two seat version. Apparently the pilot was overflying his mother's house, did some aerobatics, and lost control, crashing on the cricket pich. Porthill Park cricket club has many photos on display in the clubhouse. The pilot died in the crash.
