"Fine Art" as a phrase has been around since the 1760's and refers to art produced or intended primarily for beauty rather than utility in any of the art forms, such as sculpture, painting, or even music.
"Contemporary Photography" refers to : a) "living or happening in the same period of time" b) "of about the same age" c) "of or in the style of the present or recent times." and goes even further by defining: three categories of contemporary photographs: 1) those we have no idea what the subject is 2) a factual subject presented in an unusual way, often creating an emotion (e.g. a distorted face) and 3) recognizable objects in unrealistic surroundings.
