Were thr gains of the Industrial Revolution in England from 1780-1850 worth the pain ( particularly to the working people of that country) that we caused

in the long term, it made the country richer, and everyone benefited. But in the shorter term people took on mass-production work in filthy cities where their life expectancy plummeted. It would depend who you were. Not all working people were worse off, but I suspect most were.

Interesting question, You have to put it into the context of the time, but was there any country in particular, the Empire as a whole, or just England.
