In what year did women in England get the vote and did it difer in the colonies ie Scotland, wales and NI

The representation of the People Act of 1918 gave the vote to all men over the age of 21 and women over the age of 30 (subject to certain qualifying clauses such as the ownership of property) clauses which excluded about 25% of women over 30. Varius ammendments were made to the act over the following years and universal suffrage was eventually achieved in 1928

"The first country to give women the vote in national elections was Tavolara in 1886, followed by New Zealand in 1893, although various states and territories in Australia and the United States had given women the vote prior to this.
In the United States, suffrage is determined by the separate states, not federally. There is no national "right to vote". The states and the people have changed the U.S. Constitution five times to disallow states from limiting suffrage, thereby expanding it".

The act also gave the vote to men over the age of 19 if they had served in the army during the war. Ironically many of the suffragettes who had campaigned for the vote before the war did not initially qualify for the vote, being either too young or living with their parents, as most single women of that time did,and so could not meet the required property requiements

Tavolara is an island, now part of Italy. I think women lost the vote there again for a while. The country with the longest unbroken history of female suffrage is usually given as New Zealand. It came very late to Britain and had to be fought for.
