world war one postwar images etc

we all see pictures and tours of the trenches +battlefields of WW1 today just grass and ditches sandbags etc i would really like to find some post war images say 2 -4-6 near years on and hoew they were filled in done away with it is said that the troops of the allies had to cross the old battle field chasing the germans in WW2 can some one point me to any books ,web sites , images of tis please thankyou

The land much of the trench systems were built is prize farm land and after the war farmers were in a hurry to fill in the holes and get back to farming.

Even today, ploughing turns up remains of the war of over 80 years ago, And yes, second world war fighting took place over the same ground.

I'd guess the best place to get detailed information is in the area itself which is an easy trip across the channel to Calais. I was in Arras last year (on the front line, 1 hour from Calais) and the local museum had lots of books produced by their historical society showing the effect of the war and its aftermath.

Sorry BIFF56 but can't help you with any answers. IT'L be hard to find images as when the war ended everybody had had a gutsfull of the fighting and there was little or no interest. I guess after 4 years of slaughter they just wanted to forget about it. The only place I can think of to help you would possible be The Imperial War Museum.
